Cashiers
It's simply stunning. No wonder folks cherish their mountain getaways. It's worth rising early to enjoy a million dollar view with your morning cup of coffee. And what about relaxing on the deck as the day winds down and shadows lengthen? It's nature's best kind of stress reducer.

Cashiers

What a view! Mountain laurel, arguably the favorite flora of the Blue Ridge, frames Hampton Lake, and in the distance, the eighth green of what Golf Digest called "One of America's Great Golf Holes." High Hampton Country Club and Inn has been attracting devotees for years.

Cashiers has waterfalls

Grab your suit and go. A short walk down a wooded path brings you to Silver Run Falls, one of Cashiers' favorite swimming holes. On a warm day, children delight in its chilly, cascading water.

You’ll find Cashiers in a beautiful green valley that just happens to be 3,500 feet high, encircled by Blue Ridge Mountains towering up to 5,000 feet. This natural beauty sets the stage for families to seek out its waterfalls, trout streams, golf courses, and hiking trails. For those looking for retail recreation, antique galleries and unique boutiques abound.

Getting there is half the fun, through tiny hamlets, and on byways with names that reveal their earliest use by Native Americans.

Before you arrive, you’ll want to scout out accommodations which range from mountain golf and tennis resorts to charming bed and breakfast inns. Choose from among the sprawling High Hampton Inn celebrating its 90th season, Hampton Inn & Suites for its more modern amenities and Laurelwood Mountain Inn, a boutique motel with rooms and cabins and within walking distance to town center. Innisfree Bed & Breakfast by the Lake has stunning views of Lake Glenville, the highest mountain lake east of the Mississippi, and many more area accommodations feature warm southern hospitality. You may also want to consider the Cashiers area’s wide variety of home and condominium rentals as it is a popular second home community.

Outdoor recreation features hiking among the area’s The Western North Carolina Fly Fishing Trail directs anglers to the streams known for their abundance of brook, brown and rainbow trout. There are three public golf courses: Sapphire National, High Hampton and Redbird. Family picnics are great fun beside area lakes, while the justifiably world famous Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Blue Ridge National Heritage Area, and Appalachian Trail are nearby.

Enjoy cottage shopping along Highways 107 and 64 for unique boutiques offering home furnishings, accessories, apparel, gifts and culinary delicacies. Stroll across the Village Green to view dramatic sculptures and let the children run in the extraordinary playground aptly named “The Village Play.” Many summer weekends you’ll find outdoor concerts and festivals at this popular community greenspace.

The autumn brings the vibrant blanket of turning leaves and crisp fall days. In late October and early November, you’ll see the Shadow of the Bear appear from beyond the majestic granite face of Whiteside Mountain. And during winter months, there’s always a blazing fireplace and sometimes a snow day to entice your family onto the slopes of Sapphire for sledding fun.

The area’s beautiful scenery and woodlands are home to bountiful wildlife and even has a population of white squirrelswhich delight those lucky enough to spot one.

Cashiers is quaint, beautiful, creative, relaxed and endlessly entertaining. Many second and third generation families have favorite cabins or rental homes to which they return, year after year. Others have finally tired of leaving this unique paradise and set down more permanent roots,  where they continue to marvel at what they’ve found.
