Jasper County
History lovers' delight! The Church of the Holy Trinity, built in Grahamville in 1855, was spared on General Sherman's march through the area because it had been used as headquarters for Federal troops during the Civil War. The result? A treasure from the past for all to enjoy. One more thing: the church Bible disappeared about that time and was discovered in an old attic in New York in 1928. A New York City music publisher returned it to the Parish.

Jasper County
Don't let its small town appearance fool you. Ridgeland, county seat of Jasper County may be small in size with 3,000+ residents, but the community and its leaders have big ideas for the future. The town recently expanded to nearly 42 square miles and is now South Carolina's newest waterfront town. But don't worry. The rural charm that fills its streets and shops is still appreciated, in abundance.
Jasper County is a delightful mélange of pine meadows, rivers and streams, and the nearby Atlantic Ocean and Savannah River. It’s called the Gateway to the Lowcountry of South Carolina, in part because it’s so convenient to much of what makes this area such a desirable location to visit and live in – for those who enjoy a laid-back, peaceful lifestyle.

There are big city lights nearby, including the historic city of Savannah, which is a mere 30-minute drive. Even closer is Hilton Head Island with its long list of amenities. Beaufort is about 20 minutes away, and driving to Charleston takes about 1½ hours, up I-95.

In fact, there are seven interchanges on I-95 within Jasper County, making it delightfully easy to hop on the highway and head toward friends and family.

In reality, those friends and family may prefer to visit you, because there’s so much to see and enjoy here. Saltwater fishing is just next door, and fresh water lakes and rivers invite all kinds of water sports. For those who prefer to catch their game via camera, the Savannah Wildlife Refuge is teeming with life, on land and in the water.

Many area hunt clubs are headquartered in lovely old antebellum plantations, keeping a piece of southern history accessible to visitors. There are industrial parks and great business incentives, and families will find choices in education, from good public schools, to a number of private academies.

Outdoor living is easy in an area where the mean annual temperature is 66 degrees. The four seasons bring variety without extremes, and families delight in watching high school football in short sleeves, or cheering on the soccer team from comfortable sidelines.

Businesses have a great labor force nearby, and industry thrives in the region. With affordable real estate and proximity to the Marine Air Corps Air Station in Beaufort, retired military officers and their families have discovered that Jasper County keeps them in touch with excellent health care and base services. Many families have called Jasper County home for years. Others are attracted to new communities springing up that offer Lowcountry charm with on-site amenities. It’s definitely a gem worth exploring further.
