err Lake is big - really big. With more than 850 miles of shoreline, it’s one of the largest lakes in the Southeast. It’s also secluded and tranquil, which is one reason Tom and Letha Anderson chose it over other locations they visited.
“We’ve always liked the Outer Banks, but wanted to retire inland a bit,” she explains.
“We looked at Edenton and New Bern, and both were great, but finally
decided we wanted a large, freshwater lake.”
Once that decision was made, the Andersons looked at lakes in the region, and chose Kerr Lake in Vance County.

e’ve been here more than a year and we like everything about it,” she says, noting that they enjoy all the water sports such as fishing, boating, personal watercraft, and simply watching the activity on the water. “I can barely get glimpses of neighbors and that suits me fine,” she said. The Andersons hike with their four dogs, and they’re still only 15 miles from shopping. Since they’ve moved, their daughter, who lives in Durham, has also fallen in love with the area. She and her husband have purchased property and plan to move there as well.
The town of Henderson, located in the middle of the county, has more than 16 square blocks listed on the National Register of Historic Places, with many buildings well over one hundred years old.

As the largest retail center between Raleigh-Durham and Richmond, it provides a nice balance for the rural environment that attracts
so many there to vacation, or ultimately settle down.

|
With two country clubs and more than 60 active civic clubs and community organizations, plus the Vance Granville Community College, the living is easy on the eyes and invigorating to the mind.
“I was born in the country and I just like my countryside living,” says Mrs. Anderson.
