Visit the GS Carolina Discovery Center and find out about Millbridge, Edenmoor and Massey, three family-friendly communities located near Charlotte. You’ll also learn about the vision and guiding principles of GS Carolina, which is well known for its master planned and mixed use communities of all sizes.

According to community consultant, Linda Taylor, the adventure begins when visitors walk in. “There are large maps that show what’s in each area, as well as great photographs and displays depicting what’s happening in each neighborhood,” she says. “A large site plan shows each community and which builders are working on specific homes.” Plenty of brochures and smaller maps, plus information about retail businesses near each community offer insights as well.
“By asking what activities they enjoy now, we can help them pinpoint which communities best fit their lifestyle,” she explains. “For example, if a family enjoys camping, I will tell them that Cane Creek Park is only twenty minutes away from Millbridge and offers camping, fishing and walking trails. People like to know that they don’t have to drive to the mountains to enjoy the outdoors.”
By the time someone arrives at the Discovery Center, they already know that major advantages of living in the Charlotte area include close proximity to Douglas International Airport, and easy drives to both beach and mountains. They understand the culture, shopping and entertainment for which Charlotte is justifiably famous. What they don’t know are the relative advantages of individual communities and their small towns as well as the universal features that are part of every GS Carolina neighborhood.
Millbridge, Edenmoor and Massey vary in size and location, but all include amenities that delight families, starting with water. Each community has three pools – a lazy river, a family fun pool with a zero gradient entry, and a junior Olympic pool. A signature amenity is the Tower Slide, reminiscent of a water park and immensely popular with children. It adds up to water fun for all ages, with enough variety to keep children and adults entertained, even as they improve their water skills in the delightful Carolinas climate.
Every community features a large Residents’ Club. Media rooms have computers on site, or residents can use the facilities with their laptops. A large movie theatre invites a group of residents to gather and enjoy big screen entertainment with friends.
A paid activities director helps groups form such as dinner clubs, or book groups. “Some of our communities will have dozens of different groups with special interests,” says Patty Rainey, director of marketing. That’s important in a neighborhood in which everyone is a newcomer. The activities director meets the residents, learns about their interests, and helps kindred souls find one another.
According to Ms. Taylor, Discovery Center visitors are quite a diverse group, including families from New York, New Jersey, California, Florida, Virginia and the Carolinas. Families with children are delighted with the excellent schools and recreation provided for their youngsters. Other visitors are empty-nesters, or retirees, who want to live in a community that welcomes all ages.

Because health and wellness are benchmarks of GS Carolina communities, state-of-the-art fitness centers provide the newest technology and equipment to stay physically fit and heart-healthy – regardless of age.
Outdoors, residents can enjoy walking trails, parks and green spaces in the residential areas. All three communities have fantastic golf courses nearby, as well as great shopping, and fine dining just minutes away. Public and private schools are excellent, and considered among the best in the area. Health care facilities have attracted topnotch physicians and wellness programs, assuring that the finest preventative and emergency care is close.
Expert national and local builders ensure that attention to quality and master craftsman details are part of every home built in every GS community.
Those are the constants for all three communities. At the Discovery Center, visitors can find out what makes each community unique as well, to help choose the one that is a perfect fit.
Millbridge, in the small, historic town of Waxhaw, is only 12 miles from Charlotte, but has its own small-town appeal. On site and in addition to the pools and facilties, Millbridge has its own Airnasium, a covered, outdoor full-court area.
The Henry Clay Nesbitt Memorial Park with nine soccer fields, four baseball fields and playgrounds is nearby, and has been developed by GS Carolina. Cane Creek Park is a family-oriented, water-based recreation facility. Waxhaw was founded in the 1700s, and today, has a well-preserved historic district with restaurants for every taste, as well as more than 20 specialty stores featuring antiques, art and gifts. The rural lifestyle is celebrated and cherished here, even though Charlotte is only minutes away. Public and private schools routinely win awards and attract superb teachers.
Edenmoor, located in Lancaster County just south of Charlotte, is near the premier shopping district of Balleantyne. A 60-acre County Park has been built by GS Carolina, on land donated by them for the community in conjunction with Lancaster County. Award-winning schools are nearby, offering diverse and successful programs for students. This mixed-use community offers design choices reflecting the best of small-town southern living, making it perfect for families in every stage of life. Hundreds of unique restaurants, bistros and cafes will be joined by the adjacent village town center, offering still more choices close to home.
Massey, in Fort Mill, South Carolina, will include a nature reserve on the Catawba River. A one-room schoolhouse, originally built by the Massey family in the late 1800s, is being lovingly reconstructed and will be available for residents and visitors to get a glimpse into the past. It is being designed as a real reflection of Fort Mill, another traditional, southern small town that is proud of its past, yet friendly and welcoming to newcomers. These schools are also award-winning, and the brand new Nation’s Ford High School is already garnering awards and building successful programs.
The Discovery Center is the centralized location to find out about all three of these master-planned communities, each a bit different, but all sharing the same attention to detail, amenities, and family lifestyles. Each has a distinct character all its own, but all are thoughtfully designed to enhance the lives of those who live there. Visit the Center to learn the fine points of each, including information about homebuilders, amenities, activities, nearby schools and shopping.
