Craig Shoaf grew up in the Raleigh area, and when he and his wife, Kari, found out that Ammons Development Group was putting together a new community in Wake Forest, they knew that was where they wanted to live and raise their family.

Heritage at Wake Forest “We’ve seen what that organization has done in other areas and we knew Heritage would be a great community,” Mr. Shoaf explained. They were one of the first families to move in, and have recently built a second, larger home to accommodate their growing family.

Being in a golf community is very important to Mr. Shoaf, although with young children, he doesn’t have as much time to play – but that may well change. “I am trying to introduce them to the game, and we’d like for them to get involved in lots of different activities here at Heritage,” he said. The semi-private Heritage Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 course, designed by Bob Moore of the JMP Design Group, which enjoys a 4.5 star ranking and awards for its design.

The entire family already enjoys 1250 Heritage, the renovated restaurant located at the Heritage clubhouse. The chef is local, with “a great feel for Lowcountry food and menus.”

Nearby is The Factory Sports Complex, with an ice rink, fitness center, go carts, shops for children, and good little restaurants – great entertainment for the whole family. The Shoafs also enjoy downtown Wake Forest, with its small-town appeal and locally-owned restaurants, in addition to a movie complex and top-rated shops including Saks 5th Avenue. Nearby Smith Creek Soccer Center is open to all Heritage residents and a planned community fishing pond adds yet another option for family fun.

Heritage at Wake Forest Occasionally, the Shoaf family enjoys driving to Ocean Isle for a beachfront getaway. That’s another positive for the Raleigh area – easy access to ocean or the Appalachian Mountains. But really, it’s the Heritage community that holds the strongest appeal. “We’ve made friends, our daughters have great friends here, and this is exactly the quality neighborhood we knew it would be,” Mr. Shoaf said. “You never know what’s going to happen, but we would love to stay right here.”

Rich and Laura Williams have lived in Oregon, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and most recently, just outside of Boston. When they decided to make the move to the Raleigh area, they rented a home while they checked out neighborhoods, schools and lifestyle amenities.

“We lived about 25 miles outside of Boston, which gave us the best of both worlds,” Rich Williams explained. They found Wake Forest to be a similar environment, with its small town appeal and big-city Raleigh next door. They had two children when they moved. Now the family has grown by one, and, like the Shoaf family, they’ve built their second home in Heritage as well.

The children will be attending Wake County Schools, well known for their excellent education systems. Just this year, the county was second in the nation in terms of number of teachers earning national certification.

Heritage at Wake Forest In addition to terrific education opportunities, the Williams family enjoys the on-site and nearby amenities, and the friendly people they’ve met. “So many families have moved in that we’ve had a great experience meeting new people, and we’ve made the strongest friendships in this community that we’ve ever had, anywhere.” Their daughters are on the swim team, and he also appreciates the “great golf course.”

The private Heritage Swim & Tennis Club is just one way children in the community can stay healthy and active. Certified instructors teach swimming lessons, and there are competitions and special events. The Tennis Club has similar programs, with clinics, private and group instruction, and yearly championship tournaments.

The richly-appointed, 3,000 sq. ft. Clubhouse includes the 1250 Heritage Restaurant, and is a fantastic gathering place for friends and family.

According to developer Andy Ammons, the golf course and other amenities were designed to take full advantage of the beautiful property which makes up the Heritage community. Mr. Ammons says that it’s a great course for all levels, noting that low handicappers can enjoy the creative challenge of choosing their shots, while high handicappers find it friendly as well. Three golf pros offer private lessons, ladies clinics and junior clinics.

Heritage at Wake Forest In addition to the golf course, Heritage amenities include the junior Olympic-sized, 10-lane swimming pool, 103-foot water slide and toddler pool. A second swimming pool is opening soon, and will feature a 250-foot lazy river, zero-entry wading area, in-water seating, spray toy, and expanded deck area with shade – pure fun for the entire family!

Two hartru lighted tennis courts, three neighborhood playgrounds, a fishing pier and pond, greenways, trails and picnic areas on site are complemented by the soccer fields, the aforementioned Factory Sports Complex, more areas for walking and biking, and town parks.

Twenty-three distinct neighborhoods offer a variety of floor plans and a choice of quality custom builders known throughout the Carolinas.

All these factors have helped contribute to the success of Heritage, which was recently named North Carolina’s 2007 Master Planned Community of the Year. Even more remarkable is the fact that the community won the same award in 2003, which demonstrates its ability to maintain excellence for the long term.

The town of Wake Forest was formed in 1834 from a large plantation, and although small, enjoys a complete range of services. Nearby Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Durham are just minutes away, offering the shopping, entertainment, and dining only available in a larger city. And, for sports enthusiasts, North Carolina State University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University offers football, basketball and more. In addition, the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes has created a new set of fans among the sports set.
