There's
simply nothing like Lake Carolina - and their many awards prove it.
To be named “Community of the Year” by the Home Builders Association of Greater Columbia is no easy task. Imagine being named such for eight consecutive years.
The community that held this status for so long is well-designed and full of choices and is located just north of Columbia, S.C. This spectacular community is none other than Lake Carolina.
Lake Carolina is an active, vibrant community where families come first. Residents enjoy a wide range of resort-style amenities and activities ranging from private parks and exclusive lake access to special events designed to cater to the desires of the Lake Carolina community members such as the annual
Wine and Food Festival, Oyster Roast
and Bark in the Park.
Lake Carolina's Harborside invites friendly conversations on the porch, where
low-maintenance living is the order of the day in this family-friendly
setting. Perfection.
“Lake Carolina feels as though you’re on vacation every day,” Eleni Nine, who has lived in Lake Carolina for nine years, said. “My children walk – on sidewalks – to and from school. The landscaping is beautiful and there are walking trails. I love that I can walk in any direction and know that I am enjoying beautiful views with my exercise.”
The preservation of natural areas was at the top of everyone’s mind when building Lake Carolina, which has more than 170 acres of open, green space. Small, rolling hills can be seen along either side of the road while driving around the community. In addition, the lake—which is over 200 acres in size, is home to some of the finest large-mouth bass and bream fishing in the Midlands. Water-skiing, swimming and boating offer even more leisure-time possibilities. Multiple pools and playgrounds are scattered throughout and Sunset Park is a lakeside family picnic area.
Because the community was planned with young families and children in mind, Lake Carolina set aside land for schools. The Lake Carolina Elementary School, which opened in 2002, has earned the South Carolina Report Card rating of “Excellent” each year. It is also a National Blue Ribbon School and Palmetto’s Finest
award winner.
Kelly Mill Middle School opened in 2004 and was established as an Integrated Thematic Instructional school, featuring honors and advanced classes. The Achievement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program is considered a model for the region.

Even the dogs are smiling. Children and pets love to walk around Lake
Carolina. Parents approve because at Lake Carolina, there's lots of green
space and sidewalks to and from everywhere.
Lake Carolina is also home to two shopping centers: Town Center and Village Green. Each has shops and dining facilities run by local merchants. The unique atmosphere makes shopping a pleasure and Lake Carolinians are within walking distance to either center.
“My children love Sprinkles, the ice cream store,” Ms. Nine, who also owns Eleni Interiors in the Village Green area, said. “When they save their money, they’ll stop for ice cream on their way home from school and just hang out with their friends. I don’t know anywhere else they could have that kind of freedom and I could have such peace of mind.”
Every Thursday, Lake Carolina’s Town Center hosts the Northeast Farmers Market from May through November. The market features a large variety of goods including home-grown vegetables, free range meats, flowers and plants, baked goods and more.
What a way to end the day. Take your favorite beverage and your significant
other and steal away to say goodbye to work and hello to a relaxing evening.
It's all a part of life at Lake Carolina.
“This market offers a great social event,” Alan Lattanzi, manager of the Farmers Market said. “Sooner or later, everyone at Lake Carolina comes to the farmer’s market and I’ve met grandparents who’ve moved here to be close to their children, as well as young people who are employed in the technology sector.”
And if all this shopping isn’t enough for Lake Carolina residents, there is always more at the Village at Sandhill, located just two miles away.
Overall, there are over 30 distinctive, private neighborhoods--including The Peninsula, an exclusive, gated community with private amenities—in Lake Carolina. Innovative home designs include lakefront, brick executive and manor homes; garden and patio homes; townhomes; luxury condominiums; live-work townhomes and more.
Sun or shade? Fill a bag with sunscreen, a great novel, your fluffiest
towel, and your best pair of sunglasses. Watch the kids swim, or take a dip in
the Lake Carolina pool. You'll find friends and neighbors gathering in this
idyllic area.
“We lived in other places and gotten to know one or two neighbors but here, we have so many friends,” John Ziegler, a Lake Carolina resident and builder, said. “You just feel very much at home in this community.”
